How to find the right investors for your business

Finding investors is not the hard part. Finding the right investors — and approaching them properly — is. Any business seeking investment can download a list of investor names. What moves a raise forward is knowing which of those investors actually fit your opportunity, understanding what each one needs to see, and making a considered approach on your behalf. That is what InvestorMap does.

A database of names is not investor matching

There is an important difference between a list and a match. A subscription hands you thousands of investor names and leaves the research, the filtering and the outreach to you. Investor matching starts from your specific requirement and works outwards:

  • Understanding real investor criteria. We research the sectors, stages, deal sizes and types of opportunity each investor is most likely to consider — not just their name and a generic label.
  • Matching the opportunity. We match your funding requirement and business profile against our UK and international investor database.
  • Building a targeted shortlist. From that match we build a shortlist of genuinely relevant investors, rather than a broadcast list.
  • Approaching suitable investors properly. We approach the shortlisted investors on your behalf, present the opportunity clearly, and manage the initial contact process.
  • Testing for genuine interest. We test for genuine investor interest — the signal that tells us there is a real audience to prepare a pitch for.

This is the difference between doing it yourself with a directory and having the approach managed for you.

Who we help find investors

InvestorMap works with founders, business owners, directors and management teams across a wide range of companies seeking investment — from early-stage businesses to established SMEs preparing to raise growth capital. What matters is that there is a credible, investable proposition. The free initial assessment is where we consider that together.

How finding investors fits the InvestorMap process

Finding investors is the heart of the first paid stage, but it sits inside a staged engagement:

  1. Free initial assessment — we consider whether your business has a credible investable proposition and whether InvestorMap is the right route.
  2. Business Review & Teaser Pitch (£995) — we review the business, create a concise teaser pitch, match the opportunity against our investor database, build a targeted shortlist, approach suitable investors on your behalf, present the opportunity, manage initial contact and test for genuine interest.
  3. Pitch Deck Review & One-to-One Coaching (£3,495) — where genuine investor interest is shown, we prepare you to pitch that audience with confidence.

A success fee of 5% of the investment value applies only if investment is successfully secured. The £995 stage is the first paid stage of a staged engagement — not a one-off appetite test you pay for and stop.

Angel, private and institutional investors

Our contact base spans different investor types — including angel investors, private investors and institutional sources — across the UK and internationally. Rather than pointing you at a category, we match your opportunity to the specific investors most likely to consider it. If you want to understand the different routes to funding, see our guides to Funding Types and Investment Stages.

The approach matters as much as the match

Reaching the right investor is only half the job; how the opportunity is presented matters just as much. A considered approach — one that speaks to what a particular investor looks for, introduced through a concise teaser pitch — earns a fairer hearing than a mass email ever will. That is why the £995 stage pairs matching with a managed approach: we present the opportunity clearly, manage the initial contact process and test for genuine investor interest, rather than simply forwarding your details. It also means your time is spent on conversations with investors who are genuinely relevant, not on chasing cold contacts who were never a fit.

Frequently asked questions

How do you find investors for my business?

We match your opportunity against our UK and international investor database, research each investor's real criteria, build a targeted shortlist, approach suitable investors on your behalf, present the opportunity and manage initial contact.

Can't I just subscribe to an investor database and do it myself?

You can, but a list of names is not the same as investor matching or a managed approach. The research, filtering, outreach and initial-contact management are exactly what InvestorMap handles for you.

Do you guarantee you'll find investors or secure funding?

No. We identify and approach relevant, suitable investors and test for genuine interest. We cannot guarantee investor interest or funding.

What does it cost to find investors?

The initial assessment is free. If there is a fit, the first paid stage — including investor matching, shortlisting and outreach — is £995.
